Choices will range from budget wise hostels on the beach to five star resorts with luxury amenities. I find VRBO and Airbnb the most effective way to find a wide range of rentals.
Be aware of the differences in north & south of town. There are dramatic differences in amenities and options. North end has more large resorts, beach bars and restaurant options. South end is more quiet, residential beach homes, with some beautiful rentals a few minutes south of town.
There are some major changes and developments on the south end; which continues to add to the influx of new tourism to the area.
Ambergris Caye is well know for the crystal clear waters and amazing barrier reef just off shore. Here you will find every watersport imaginable. From snorkeling, diving, and swimming with the sharks, you will not be disappointed with your options. Parasailing and skydiving are becoming quite popular as well as sailing and jetskis.
Ambergris has a ton of great places, from casual dining to five-star restaurants. My favorite places are always the local cafes and streetside vendors. For the best authentic Belizean food, try these hidden places that tourist sometimes miss.
The basic mode of transportation while on the island is golf carts or bicycles. There are tons of cart rentals, so check around for competitive prices. Taxis are plentiful, and you can travel to most places within downtown area for app. $5 US.
