a few places to stay:

  • Before renting, ensure you understand the location on the peninsula; as the village area is quite different than the northern tip.
  • In the village, you will find small resort hotels, home rentals and cottages.  The advantage of being in the village is the proximity to the restaurants, beach bars and shops.  On the northern area; you will find larger beach homes and resorts that are more self contained.  If being close to these amenities without driving is important; I recommend staying in or near the village.

Placencia

Arrival:

With Placencia being located in the southern section of the mainland, there are additional travel options.  You can fly from Belize City via Tropic Air or Maya Airlines with app. 30 minute flight.

Placencia is the home to some of the best beaches in Belize.  The fishing is incredible as well as snorkeling and scuba diving.  You can often see dolphins and manatee swimming in the ocean.

FOOD

Transportation to Placencia:

Rental Cars are easily rented at the Belize City airport with Placencia being app 3 1/2 hour drive.  There are also several transfer companies that leave daily with very nice and comfortable vans.

Unlike San Pedro; Placencia is a quiet fishing village and offers numerous rental options to enjoy the ambience and uniqueness of this beautiful area.

Accommodations

What to Know:

If you are staying in the village and arrived via airline; you may or may not desire to rent a car.  The village has everything to offer with restaurants, shops and beaches, so many people choose to explore the village on bike or golf cart.  Barefoot Services offer excellent cars to rent in the village if you would like to explore the nearby waterfalls, banana farms and chocolate tours.
